The other house

I mentioned that I bought two vintage dolls houses from Recycling Works. As well as the hardboard house, there was a lithographed tin dolls house. Here are some quick photos of it - I haven't cleaned it at all yet.

The ground floor exterior is built of stone, while the upper floor is timber-clad.

I particularly like the wall frieze in the children's bedroom - there's a frog, a rabbit, a squirrel, a cat and ducklings.

The walls are in quite good condition, but the floors and roof are rather rusty.

I like the yellow-flowered curtains in the living room, and there are yellow curtains in the main bedroom too.

There's no maker's name on this house - does anyone recognise it? I think it's probably American - possibly made by Marx??

    1. Thank you, Irmchen! I was looking at this website when I was writing the post, but I didn't see this house at first. However, since you told me it was there, I kept looking - and found it, thank you very much! Under Same House, Different Exterior, it appears under Different Colonial - so it is a Marx Colonial dolls house - wonderful to know!

    1. Thank you, Lil! It's nice to see one with bright floors and no rust. I guess when I furnish it, the rusty floors won't be so obvious.

  4. I like the house even if it is some rost in it. Maybe you can pretend that it is a pattern. (Now I am smiling.) The furnishing will do a lot for how it will look. We do not see this kind of houses very often here, but I have allways liked them very much.

  5. Hello Rebecca I clicked on to say this house is a Marx, but I see others have answered! There is a picture in the book Furnished Dollhouses 1880s-1980s by Dian Zillner page 199 of a house very like yours only with a small extension on the living room side. It has the same lithographed interior. In 1952 the house retailed at 5 dollars 29 cents including furniture (bargain!!) Sorry to hear you have been poorly hope you are feeling alot better now. Kind regards Jenny.

    1. Hello Jenny, Thank you! That was definitely a bargain price - I paid quite a bit more ;-) Some Marx houses are fairly easy to find here, but I don't think I'd seen this one before, so I don't mind. That sounds like a useful book - I have one of Dian Zillner's books, but not this one - yet! I am feeling much better, thank you :-)

    1. Thanks, Troy - if I ignore the rust, it is in great shape - and that will be easier to do with furniture!
